Gustavo Traversari
Ritratto maschile inedito, di epoca proto-adriana appartenente ad una collezione privata romana, in: Rivista di archeologia, anno XXII, 1998, 60-61, figs. 1-4

The young man is portrayed with sharply turned head, thick, curly hair and sideburns on the cheeks. His oval face is charectarised by a rounded chin, slightly-parted full lips, a straight, broad nose, almond-shaped eyes with heavy lids and a small mouth with parted lips. The large proportions of the upper part of the head suggests that it was supposed to be seen from below and afar.

Note
The head, which comes from either a funerary monument, a stele or an altar and which can be dated on iconographic and stylistic grounds to around 120 AD, illustrates the specific moment in Roman portraiture which witnessed the passage from the time of Trajan to that of Hadrian in the West
