Woman's head oinochoe
A beautifully proportioned head vase of the “Cook class.” Such vases with mould-made and wheel-made components were especially popular in the 5th century B.C., and the most common examples feature the head of a woman. The vessel is sculpted with trefoil mouth and high, elegantly arched round handle. The bonnet holding the centrally parted hair, the trefoil mouth and handle all in a lustrous black glaze00691; black stripe around the foot. The face is framed by fine, wavy hair. The eyebrows, line of the eyes, irises and pupils are in black slip with added white over the sclerae (corners of the eyes)
